Kilrush Genealogy Conference 2026: From the Great Famine to the 1926 Census

Early heads up from the Kilrush & District Historical Society!

Confirmed speakers are:

  • Ciara Breathnach, University College Cork
  • Catriona Crowe, formerly National Archives of Ireland
  • Fiona Fitzsimons, Trinity College Dublin and the Irish Family History Centre @EPIC
  • Maurice Gleeson, DNA expert
  • John Grenham, johngrenham.com and formerly The Irish Times
  • Rachel Murphy, University of Limerick

There will also be representatives from the National Archives of Ireland to discuss the new census data.

All lectures will focus on different aspects of the 1926 census data, including its connection to social history, previous censuses, other genealogical datasets and DNA. Topics may evolve as our speakers become familiar with the newly released census data between April and October.

A full auxiliary progamme of tours and social events is being organised for the conference weekend.

Please plan to join us in Kilrush, wherever your ancestors lived in 1926, and especially if they lived in West Clare.
