I’m getting in touch on behalf of the Collins Griffith Commemoration Society to warmly invite your members to attend this year’s Collins Griffith Commemoration at Glasnevin Cemetery on Sunday, 16 August 2026.
The ceremony begins at 1.00pm, with attendees asked to be in place by 12.45pm.
The commemoration honours General Michael Collins and President Arthur Griffith and their contribution to Irish independence and the foundation of the Irish State.
This year’s keynote oration will be delivered by Independent Senator Michael McDowell, with an address by historian Professor Michael Laffan.
The Defence Forces will be represented by Brigadier General Mark Staunton, who will lay a wreath on their behalf. The ceremony will also include a procession, wreath-laying, the Last Post and Reveille, and the National Anthem.
The event is free, non-political and open to everyone, and families are very welcome.
We are keen to make sure that people in the local community, as well as those with an interest in Irish history and heritage, are aware that the commemoration is taking place.
