EDWARD RICHARDS-ORPEN MEMORIAL TRUST ANNUAL LECTURE

The Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates are delighted to announce the upcoming EDWARD RICHARDS-ORPEN MEMORIAL TRUST ANNUAL LECTURE on 29th September 2026. This will be an online event with details and event link available on our Eventbrite page in the coming weeks.

This year’s lecture,  Virginia Richards-Orpen and the Hitler Youth: an untypical German story, will be given by Dr Philip Bull, adjunct professor at La Trobe University in Melbourne, and will explore the life of Virginia Richards-Orpen, who was born in 1917, and grew up at Monksgrange, the family ancestral home in Co. Wexford. Her intellectual qualities saw her going to Oxford where she immersed herself in studies for a language’s degree, the recreational opportunities of college life and a significant involvement in German-related activities.
