Bursary: RIA Colonial Legacies Fellowship Scheme 2025-2026

Application deadline: 10 June 2025.

We are pleased to announce that the RIA Colonial Legacies Fellowship Scheme 2025-2026 is now open for applications.

Following a commissioned scoping exercise, the RIA joined a growing number of public bodies and institutions in Ireland, the UK, the US, Europe, and elsewhere, that are reappraising their history through an examination of their imperial and colonial legacies.

These fellowships are intended to encourage research into the RIA’s historic links with colonial enterprises, with suggested avenues of research for fellows under the scheme’s two main strands:

  • The RIA and Networks of Empire: members, colonisers and collectors
  • The RIA Museum and Library

Up to four fellowships will be awarded. The stipend for each fellowship is €5,000 with research completion expected by the end of July 2026.

The scheme is open for applications until 10 June 2025.
