Workhouse Records Magherafelt Workhouse 1847

Recently a society in Northern Ireland published an interesting book. It is a transcription of the Workhouse records for Magherafelt Workhouse Indoor Relief Register 1847. It was published by the Ballinascreen Historical Society.

“The register should be of great interest to genealogists, those compiling a One-Name Study, and also social historians. In addition, the workhouse register pre-dates the compulsory Irish Civil Registration for births and deaths in 1864 and it may be possible to use the workhouse dates to act as an aid to identify those ancestors in family trees, especially where the townland is known.”
