200 Magazine – News from Dublin in 1823

The February edition of 200 Magazine, which reports the news from two centuries ago as if it was happening now and in the language of 2023, is online. You can read it and check out the previous seven free editions (full of news and illustrations from Britain and Ireland in 1822 and now 1823), and sign up for email alerts when new monthly editions are online by going to www.200livinghistory.info

The February 1823 edition reports from Dublin on the collapse of the trial of Orange activists involved in the ‘bottle riot’ that targeted London’s lord lieutenant in Ireland in late 1822. There’s also the clearest sign yet that France is preparing to invade Spain, the launch of a major campaign to abolish slavery across the British Empire, and the death of smallpox vaccine pioneer, Dr Edward Jenner.

If you have any bicentenary-related activity in 2023, please tell 200’s editor, John Evans – he’s at john@freehistoryproject.uk
